Events have taken place across China to mark the 71st anniversary of the end of World War II. Among the events, people from China, Japan and South Korea have attended the annual peace assembly in Nanjing on Monday. It's put together every year to remember those lost during the "rape of Nanjing." Late 1937 saw Japanese troops begin six weeks of rape and slaughter after capturing the city. More than 300-thousand people were killed in the violence. On August 15th of every year, NGOs from around the world gather in Nanjing to pay their respects to the victims. Similar events have also been held in other cities in China, including Shanghai and Harbin, which were also the focus of Japanese atrocities during the war. |
