Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Cui Tiankai is calling the two sides to form a new partnership to work together on global challenges when addressing at an event in the Brookings U.S.-China Leadership Forum. The diplomat said that the bilateral cooperation between China and the U.S. is more extensive and comprehensive than what is usually reported by the media. The relationship is stronger and more resilient than many people have realized. But, going forward, the two sides need better visions, stronger trust and skills to manage differences, said the ambassador, especially when facing with tremendous global challenges such as climate change, terrorism, poverty, energy security, financial instability and so on. Cui also stressed that China’s top priority is to accomplish the economic, social and political transformation for the modernization of the country. But when China’s interests are hurt, the country will do what it can to safeguard and protect itself, said Cui. The diplomat in the end hoped that the two sides will keep moving on the positive track in the future. |
