China's top legislator Zhang Dejiang has heard briefings by principal officials of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, including Chief Executive CY Leung Chun-ying. This was part of Zhang's inspection tour at the Government Secretariat of the Hong Kong SAR. The chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress said that the present SAR government has worked together to earnestly implement the principles of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" as well as the Basic Law and a high degree of autonomy. He said that a lot of difficulties had been overcome and steady progress had been made in the work. Zhang added that the policy idea of "appropriately proactive approach" had also strived to develop the SAR's economy and improve livelihoods with initial success on multiple fronts. He also expressed hopes that all civil servants would make unrelenting efforts in improving their work so as to make more contributions to the prosperity, stability and development of Hong Kong and provide better service for its residents. The top legislator's 3-day inspection tour in the Hong Kong SAR will last until Thursday. He is also due to attend a Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong. |
