Other judges include scriptwriter Li Qiang, actress Tang Wei, photographer and director Lv Yue. Launched in 2006, the film festival is dedicated to promoting the early works of young filmmakers. As the jury president, Wang Kar-wai has also expressed his hopes for the event. "To filmmakers, directorial debuts are the start of their careers. To cinematic arts, directorial debut symbolize the future of film. I hope this year's FIRST International Film Festival will show us more possibilities in cinemas," Wang said in a video message. Actor Chen Kun will serve as the ambassador this year. He has promised to donate 500,000 yuan per year to support indie documentary productions. The film festival also promised to expand co-operation with more international organisations and film festivals to better serve the domestic documentary industry. South Korean director Na Hong-jin will join the training camp to open a three-day course to share scrip-writing and directing experiences. All films produced after January 1, 2015 are eligible to submit for competition in the festival. There are no limits on age or nationality. Candidates should submit their works before May 15. The finalists will be announced on June 15. This year's FIRST International Film Festival runs from July 21 to 30.
