Railway authorities said the number of rail passengers has been at high levels during the three-day holiday. The occupancy of medium-distance and short-distance rail, and high-speed long-distance lines have surpassed 90 percent. Official figures show approximately 12.9 million train trips were made in China on the first day of the May Day holiday. Those figures have broken the daily record set during the same period last year, an increase of 8.5 percent. China Railway Corporation estimated that 10.15 million journeys would be made across the country on Sunday. The operating time for online ticketing has been extended, and extra trains have been put in service to meet the high demand.
