China's special envoy to Syria will visit Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Russia after his stay in Geneva to push for a political solution to the conflict.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying says Xie Xiaoyan is currently meeting with UN officials, members of the Syrian government and the opposition in Geneva during the intra-Syrian talks that resumed on April 13.

UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura is scheduled to hold talks with the Syrian government and opposition delegation this week.

Hua says China welcomes the peace talks in Geneva and supports De Mistura's mediation efforts.

She says China is willing to work with the relevant parties towards a political settlement to the Syrian issue.
