A new collection of books have been published to try to preserve the cultural heritage of the 55 ethnic minorities in China. China International Radio Press has published the books through the support of a national fund specially allocated for the development of China's cultural sector. CRI Director-General Wang Gengnian writes the preface for the collection. The volumes include a total of 42 books covering a wide range of topics such as proverbs of the Hui people, the history of the Mongolian people, and the Epic of King Gesser, the story of a legendary hero from Tibet. "Compendium of Studies of Ancient Chinese Civilization" is meant to try to document the cultural heritage of the 55 ethnic groups in China, as well as the Han majority. While the Han population makes up more than 90 percent of the population in China, there are 55 other recognized ethnic groups. |
