Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwestern China is set to introduce 100-thousand low-cost electric vehicles in its poor regions by 2020. The scheme mainly covers prefectures in southern and eastern parts of Xinjiang. The electric vehicles will cost between 30-thousand to 50-thousand yuan, or 46-hundred to 77-hundred US dollars, and have a maximum speed of 70 km per hour. Electric two- and three-wheel vehicles are popular in the areas concerned. The plan is part of a larger program in Xinjiang to ensure that at least 50 percent of new vehicles in pilot areas are powered by electricity. |
