![]() Peng's initial design of a Fortune Cat is shown in the picture. The sad fortune cat will stay on display until April 13th, 2016. If you've ever visited a Chinese or Japanese restaurant or any Chinatown shop, you've probably noticed a little cat figurine that has its paw raised as if it's waving in good fortune for its owners. There is such a Fortune Cat now staying in a showcase window of the Today Art Museum in eastern Beijing. The artist who made it is Peng Libiao, who majored in sculpture at the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. He says he hopes his sculpture of this Fortune Cat might inspire passersby to think about the origin and stories of Fortune Cat while they enjoy the wealth they constantly acquire through the cat. Since few people know and care about the origin of the cat, Peng Libiao made the cat look a little bit sad. Peng's Fortune Cat would remain standing there until April 13th. In order to help more young artists, like Peng, grab the public attention, the Today Art Museum offers some large windows of the museum to showcase their art for free. Each month, new pieces of artwork are exhibited. |
