Kindergartners are given red dots on their foreheads during an ancient-style "first writing ceremony" in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province on Sunday, March 13, 2016. The red dots represent that the children have opened the "wisdom eye," as the words "red dot" and "wisdom" are pronounced the same in Chinese. First Writing Ceremony, also called "Kaibi Ceremony," was one of the most important events for students in ancient China, meaning the children are ready to take a step in pursuing knowledge. The children are also required to bow to Confucius and their teachers to show respect before lectures.[Photo: Chinanews]
