Disney's "Zootopia" has ruled the North American box office in its second weekend, earning 50 million US dollars.

The critically acclaimed story of a bunny policewoman who works with a fox to solve a crime in the Zootopia animal kingdom has so far earned 143 million dollars in North America, barreling through the 100 million dollars mark.

Meanwhile, new thriller "10 Cloverfield Lane" has debuted in second place, with a better-than-expected 25 million dollars in revenues over the weekend.

The J.J. Abrams-produced horror movie is billed as a "spiritual sequel" to the 2008 film "Cloverfield".

It follows a woman who finds herself trapped in a doomsday bunker, waiting out the apocalypse with the neighborhood survivalists.

Another new release "The Brothers Grimsby" staring British actor Sacha Baron Cohen has flopped with only 3.2 million dollars in North America,

The flat opening of the 60 million-dollar spy comedy brings a career-low for the British actor and comedian.

Here in China,

"Zootopia" is also putting in a strong performance.

The animation has raked in 112 million US dollars so far, also hopping across the 100 million dollars mark.

The Disney charmer also sets a new record in China.

It roared to 25 million dollars on Saturday, the biggest single-day gross ever for an animated film.

Previous record-holder is Kung Fu Panda 3.

Zootopia is now on its way to surpass Kung Fu Panda 3's 146 million dollars to become the biggest animated film in history at the Chinese box office.
