Lawmakers in China have completed a preliminary draft of the country's first e-commerce law, to regulate the flourishing sector. The draft will be up for deliberation before lawmakers submit the final version to the top legislature. Uzhitu, vice chairman of the National People's Congress Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, which drafted the e-commerce law, explains how the document was made. "During our work of drafting this law, we have taken a problem-oriented approach, setting up regulations over the responsibilities of e-commerce entities, safety of trade and service, data and information protection, consumer rights protection, market order, fair competition and so on." He says e-commerce is still a relatively new form of trade, but it has had a great impact on the Chinese economy, as well as people's lives. China surpassed the US market in 2015 to become the world's largest e-commerce market, with the overall market valued totaled at 20 trillion yuan or some 3 trillion U.S. dollars. |
