A number of economists are taking issue with the move by Moody's to downgrade China's sovereign rating outlook. Moody's has moved its investment outlook from "stable" to "negative." It's pointing to increasing government debt and continued capital outflows. However, Lian Ping, chief economist at the Bank of Communications, says Moody's is misjudging China's economic situation, arguing that Chinese economy is still set to maintain growth of around 6.5 percent this year. At the same time, Wang Tao, chief economist at UBS, says China will be able to support growth through expansionary fiscal policies. Moody's rating for China currently sits at Aa3. It's the fourth-highest rating in its system. |
