The Chinese government is moving to downplay concerns being raised by foreign diplomats about the impact three new impending laws may have on foreign operations in China.

Diplomats from the EU, the US, Canada, Germany and Japan have signed-off on two separate letters, expressing concerns about the impact of new Chinese laws connected to Cyber Security, counterterrorism and the managment of non-governmental organizations.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei says the concerns raised in the letters are unfounded.

"All countries are enhancing their efforts to prevent and counter terrorism. So making counter-terrorism laws is very important. In the process of making the relevant laws, China has followed the other countries' practices, as well as international practices. These laws will not affect relevant businesses' normal operations and it will not affect their personnel's legitimate interests."

The new laws are expected to be passed by lawmakers at the forthcoming sessions of the National People's Congress.
