E.U. and U.S. negotiators have said that talks are on course for a trade deal this year that could boost each economy by some 100 billion U.S. dollars. Chief U.S. negotiator, Dan Mullaney, gave a timetable for the talks surrounding the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. "By July, what we are hoping for is to have all the texts in an advanced stage of consolidation. So essentially, we eliminated brackets indicating this agreement in as many areas as we can, leaving a smaller number of relatively more sensitive issues that we can address for the rest of the year." Chief E.U. negotiator Ignacio Garcia Bercero also said that they would conclude the talks this year. "We are ready to seek to conclude negotiations in 2016, provided that the substance is right so we must ensure that we pick up the pace and give the necessary impulse to get this agreement right." Negotiations on the TTIP have been going on for over two years. The two sides have already exchanged offers that would cut tariffs on 97 percent of goods |
