A Peking Opera performance based on German writer Goethe's masterpiece "Faust" has been staged in Beijing.

Created by artists from China, Italy and Germany, the play is an experiment designed to try to render Western classics with the Chinese artform.

It was first performed in Italy during a festival last year.

It was also performed in New York in January.

The performance at Beijing's Mei Lanfang Theater was staged after revisions were made in the dancing, lighting and play book.
