Investigators say a restaurant involved in an "overpriced fish" scandal in northeast Chinese city of Harbin has been suspended. The punishment comes from a handful of issues, including false prices and catering license expirations, according to a report of Chinanews.com. However, the report also said the journalists failed to contact the customer involved, named Chen Yan. A man, claiming to be Chen's close friend, suggested that Chen wants the investigation team to uncover the video footage in the whole case. "The normal lives of Chen and his families have been severely disturbed by the journalists. He had no choice but to turn off his communication to the outside world", the man added. Jiangsu based tourists Chen Yan and friends were charged an unreasonable price of 10 thousand yuan (around 1,500 USD) -- for a fish feast during their visit to the Northbank Wild Fish Village in Harbin City last week. Chen then posted this unfair treatment on his personal Weibo account. His post soon went viral online and triggered heated debates among web users. Almost all the comments from the netizens condemned the dishonest behavior of the exposed restaurant and demanded an immediate investigation into the case. Chen later deleted his weibo post of the incident and people started to question his claim. Harbin's price watchdog released its initial investigation results on Monday, which verified no violations for the restaurant. The results raised further criticism of Chen Yan by netizens. Later Chen provided relevant evidence to prove his claim and would be contacted soon after by Harbin authorities. The case finally came to an end on Wednesday as the local price authority closed down the restaurant. |
