[File Photo: Xinhua] Chinese outbound tourism to South Korea has reached some 160 thousand trips during this Spring Festival period. That is an 18 percent year on year rise. About 80 percent say they went to the country for shopping. "I give it a 9 in terms of shopping. As to travelling experience, South Korea lags behind China a bit." Major duty free shops saw a 10 percent increase on sales during the period, while sales in Seoul's shopping malls and supermarkets jumped some 70 percent. Cheong Byeong-ju, a PR manager at a duty free shop, says that they see a shift on Chinese consumers' shopping preference. "In the past, most of our Chinese customers are relatively elder and like to buy expensive luxury brands. Now more young tourists come to buy cheaper goods." Last year, fewer Chinese visitors went to South Korea compared to other Asian countries like Japan and Thailand. |
