Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the United States to be cautious, not to further complicate the regional situation in the Korea Peninsula.

Wang Yi made the remark while meeting with his U.S. counterpart John Kerry at the sideline of the Munich meeting on Syrian crisis, when he expressed Beijing's opposition to the planned joint deployment of a missile defence system by South Korea and the United States.

Wang Yi said the deployment of the THAAD system in South Korea is poised to further complicate the security situation in the region and damage China's security interests.

"As to the deployment of a THAAD system by the United States, including the X-Wave radar, the scope of the coverage goes far beyond the defence needs of the Korean peninsula. The range reaches far into to the Asian continent. This directly affects the strategic security interesst of China and other countries on the Asian continent," said the Chinese diplomat during an interview by Reuters.

Seoul and Washington are set to discuss the deployment as early as next week.

During his meeting with Mr. Kerry, Wang Yi said North Korea further conduct of nuclear test and satellite launch using ballistic missile technology continued to violate United Nation’s related resolutions and casted serious impact to the international nuclear non-proliferation system.

Wang and Kerry agreed to speed up the process in the UN Security Council and to come up with a new resolution to effectively curb North Korea’s nuclear activities.

Wang added that the shared focus between China and the U.S. should be to bring the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue back to talks and negotiations instead of sanctions, to which Kerry expressed agreement.
