Seven typical cases involving judicial interference by officials were openly criticized on Monday.

The officials involved were either removed from their posts or given sanctions, according to a circular issued by the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

In one case, Ma Yong, then Party secretary of Yiyang City Committee of the CPC in central China's Hunan Province, had taken bribes from the defendant's relatives and asked court personnel to give light sentence to a defendant who killed someone.

Ma was put under investigation by a procuratorate department on crime of abuse of power and bribery, according to the circular.

In another case, Zuo Hong, former judge with the Supreme People's Court, took several bribes from litigants and middlemen. Zuo was expelled from the Party and removed from post.

Interference in judicial activities is often seen in corruption cases and miscarriages of justice.

The commission has vowed to step up supervision and punish violators.
