The Shenzhen based Automobile manufacturer BYD Company Limited has become the first ever Chinese company to win the prestigious 2016 Zayed Future Energy Prize for Large Corporations.

The prize was awarded at the 9th World Future Energy Summit (WFES) which kicked off on January 18, 2016 in Abu Dhabi.

Established in 1995, BYD is the world's largest rechargeable battery supplier and new energy vehicle manufacturer.

Wang Chuanfu, Chairman, CEO and the founder of BYD Company, said the prize would encourage more people to make greater efforts for sustainable development.

Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Emir of Dubai Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Mexico Enrique Pe?a Nieto and Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon were among those attending the ceremony.

"This year's World Future Energy Summit is the first high-level global campaign in the sustainable development field after the 2015 Climate Change Conference in Paris. During the following days of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, participants will discuss and try to find feasible solutions to carry out the Paris Agreement and 2030 sustainable development agenda," said Ban Ki-moon.

Dedicated to advancing future energy, energy efficiency and clean technologies, the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) is an annual event which includes a summit, an exhibition, the Project Village, Round Table Discussions, the Young Future Energy Leaders program, corporate meetings and social events.
