President Xi Jinping is calling on China and Saudi Arabia to be a "good partner" sharing "common development." The president made the call in a signed article published in Saudi Arabia's dominant daily newspaper Al Riyadh. In the article, Xi Jinping reviewed diplomatic ties between China and Saudi Arabia and highlighted rapid growing economic cooperation. Abdurakhman Morshed, a Saudi political columnist, says further prospects for economic cooperation are bright. "Bilateral trade between China and Saudi Arabia over the past 12 years has been worth more than 1.7 trillion riyals. It is an astonishing amount and the two countries will continue to deepen their cooperation in the following years for common prosperity." In the article, President Xi also said that he is looking forward to working with the leaders of Saudi Arabia to elevate bilateral relations and deliver more benefits to people in the two countries. Nayef al-Hamra, a veteran journalist with Al Riyadh, says the article provides valuable information about China's efforts in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East. "China has been informative in terms of politics, the economy and the military. China's efforts in the Middle East demonstrate its will to alleviate regional tensions and meditate crises, as well as how important its role is in supporting humanitarianism." Xi Jinping's trip to Saudi Arabia also coincides with the 10th anniversary of the late-King Abdullah's visit to China in January of 2006, the first Saudi head-of-state to visit China. |
