Packaging has become a multi-billion yuan business in China, thanks to the country's ballooning appetite for online shopping. However, a recent report found that excessive use of packaging materials is causing harm.

China's State Post Bureau and Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication found vendors are overusing tape, plastic bags and stuffing materials while packaging goods. A lack of recycling regulations for these materials has also led to environmental damages.

China has only set requirements on recycling courier receipts. The report urges authorities and companies to reduce the environmental effects of packaging.
