    Digital publication revenues hit 338.8 billion yuan (about 53. 2 billion U.S. dollars) in 2014, surging more than 220 percent from 2010, government data showed Saturday.

    The sector was the fastest growing in the publishing, printing and distribution industry, which grossed a total of 1.997 trillion yuan in revenues in 2014, an increase of 61.3 percent from 2010, according to the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT).

    The profits generated in the industry stood at 156.4 billion yuan during the year, surging 45.3 percent from the reading in 2010, according to the SAPPRFT.

    The number of books printed grew 14 percent to 8.19 billion in 2014, while copies of newspapers also climbed 2.6 percent to reach 46.4 billion in the year.

    Meanwhile, the number of periodicals published dropped 3.7 percent in the same period to 3.1 billion in 2014.

    According to the SAPPRFT, print publications pulled in 3.1 billion U.S. dollars overseas in 2014. Meanwhile, digital publications earned 3 billion U.S. dollars in earnings in the overseas market.
