Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao made the announcement in Kabul on Tuesday. "It's our sincere hope that the cooperation between us and the assistance that we can provide to Afghanistan will lend impetus to peace development of Afghanistan and the prosperity of the people's lives." A massive earthquake struck Afghanistan in late October, killing 115 people. The Afghan State Minister for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs Wais Ahmad Barmak said the supplies from China have already been distributed. "We have used our air forces for evacuation of injured people, which has been now completed. And at the same time we've used the government transport for relief items that have been sent to the affected communities and distribution has already started." The Chinese Vice President is in Afghanistan for a state visit as the two countries mark 60 years of diplomatic relations. Li said China will honor its commitment to provide Afghanistan 1.5 billion yuan, around 240 million dollars, in aid in the next three years. About 80 million USD will be available this year to build 10-thousand low-income apartments in Kabul. Li also expressed China's willingness to work with Afghanistan in facilitating regional security and development. |
