Beijing has selected four centers that will receive state support to showcase best practice in the cultural and creative industries, which now account for 13 percent of the capital's economy.

The four are the Beijing Publication and Creative Industry Park, the Tsinghua University Science Park, the Xingguang Media Park and the Laijin Cultural and Creative Industry Park in the city's Xicheng, Haidian, Daxing and Chaoyang districts respectively.

Selected from more than 100 similar sites, they will enjoy support in policies, funds, staff and business approval, said Wang Haiping, a senior publicity official at the opening of the 10th China (Beijing) International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo.

The four-day expo, with its main venue in the China International Exhibition Center, has attracted 1,800 firms from 45 countries or regions. Contracts worth 590 billion yuan (93 billion U.S. dollars) were signed during the previous nine expos, with the first in 2006.

Beijing listed the cultural and creative industry as one of its development priorities in 2006. The added value of the sector has increased from 67 billion yuan in 2005 to 283 billion yuan in 2014, an annual growth of 17.3 percent on average.
