(Xinhua/Pei Yingbo) Chinese and Bulgarian leaders have envisioned broad prospects for bilateral cooperation under the "Belt and Road" initiative. The "Belt and Road" initiative, standing for the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, was unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013. It brings together countries in Asia, Europe and even Africa, with the purpose of boosting infrastructure building, financial cooperation and cultural exchanges in those regions. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday met Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov, respectively. Plevneliev recalled his visit to China in January 2014, during which he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and the two leaders announced the establishment of an all-round friendly cooperative partnership between the two countries. This relationship has broad prospects, Plevneliev said, adding that Bulgaria will work with China to deepen cooperation under the "Belt and Road" initiative and expand exchanges in culture, education and tourism. Plevneliev said Bulgaria values the mutual friendship between the two countries and thanked China for the long-term support to Bulgaria. Bulgaria highly appreciates China's foreign policy on win-win cooperation, which benefits the international community, Plevneliev said. The Chinese Dream contains good wishes for China's peaceful development and Bulgaria is willing to share this noble pursuit, the president said. Bulgaria also will make unremitting efforts to promote cooperation between Central and Eastern European countries and China, and that between the European Union (EU) and China, Plevneliev said. The president said he is willing to serve as an envoy of friendship between Bulgaria and China and make positive contribution to the development of bilateral ties. Wang highlighted the important efforts made by Plevneliev to promote the development of friendly relations between the two countries. The president attended the publication ceremony of the Bulgarian version of Xi's book "The Chinese Dream of the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation," which demonstrated Bulgaria's staunch support for the China-Bulgaria friendship and China's unremitting efforts to explore a development path that fits its national conditions, Wang said. China will work with Bulgaria to effectively implement the consensus reached by the two presidents last year on developing a comprehensive friendly cooperative partnership, Wang said. During the talks with his Bulgarian counterpart, Daniel Mitov, Wang said that since Bulgaria and China established diplomatic relations in 1949, bilateral ties have been developing smoothly with no pending issues between the two countries, and the two peoples have always cherished friendly feelings toward each other. The two sides should strive to achieve more tangible results in bilateral ties, Wang said. China and Bulgaria should be good partners with mutual trust and support that take care of each other's core interests and major concerns and safeguard political mutual trust and common interests, Wang said. The two countries should deepen cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure, energy and people-to-people exchanges, he added. The two countries should also jointly build the "Belt and Road," integrate their own national development strategies and seek more opportunities for cooperation, Wang said. China and Bulgaria also need to promote the cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries and China hopes Bulgaria will continue to play an important role in fields such as agriculture, education and culture, Wang said. Mitov said that China is Bulgaria's most important partner in Asia, adding that Bulgaria will work with China to jointly promote the bilateral comprehensive friendly cooperative partnership, maintain high-level exchanges, deepen cooperation in such traditional areas as agriculture, and contribute to the building of the "Belt and Road." Bulgaria also will work with China to enhance cooperation in energy and infrastructure construction, promote exchanges in culture and tourism and upgrade the level of cooperation between Central and Eastern European countries and China, Mitov said.
