A cold front will hit north China starting Saturday and is expected to disperse the smog in Beijing and neighboring areas. The National Meteorological Center (NMC) canceled its yellow alert for smog, the second-lowest alert on its four-level scale, which was issued Friday. The cold front, which will arrive Saturday night, will sweep parts of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and northeast China, and some areas will see temperatures drop by over 10 degrees Celsius. The impacted areas will also see gales, rainfall and snow, the center said. Meanwhile, the NMC renewed its forecast for the approaching Typhoon Koppu, which will batter China's southeastern regions. Koppu, the 24th typhoon of the year, will bring gales to coastal regions of Fujian Province and Taiwan in the next two days. |
