Officials in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, say that they are going to allow transit passengers 72-hour stays to promote the city's tourism. Starting from next month, Wuhan will become the 14th city in China to allow 72-hour visa-free visitation. With the policy, visitors from 51 countries will be able to go shopping, sightseeing or to do business within 72 hours in the city without a transit visa. The city's Deputy Secretary General Lei Yongsheng said "the new policy will further open up the city and promote the local tourism industry." Statistics show by that the end of 2014 Wuhan received more than 2.4 million overseas tourists. Currently, foreign visitors can enjoy a 72-hour visa-free stay in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. |
