Anchor: Deng Xiaoping's famous visit to the US in 1979 is now captured in a new documentary arriving in Chinese theaters next month.

Meanwhile, Michael Yu Minhong, CEO of a Chinese education giant, also has a role in this documentary film.

Reporter: This documentary records the nine days beginning on Jan 29, 1979, when Deng Xiaoping made his historic visit to the US, only one month after that country established diplomatic relations with China.

Fu Hongxing, who is famed for another documentary film that focuses on another late Chinese leader Zhou Enlai's Diplomatic Career in 1998, is director of the up-to-the-market film Mr. Deng Goes to Washington,or Xuan Feng Jiu Ri (旋风九日) in Chinese.

"87-year old Zbigniew Brzezinski, who made a few appearances in the documentary, has also joined the filming. There are many touching stories around political conflict, romance, and particularly some American girls fighting hard in their efforts of protecting the Chinese national flag."

According to director Fu, an attempted assassination of legendary Chinese late leader by a Ku Klux Klan member upon his visit to the United States will be shown for the first time in this documentary.

Since the film has over half of its dialogues made in English, Michael Yu, founder and CEO of the New Oriental Education and Technology Group Inc, who speaks English, also contributed to the film.

"Playing a role in this film is not due to a shift in my focus to the Chinese film market but because I'm very interested in that period of history. In fact, everyone in it casted an important influence on the lives of others. To attain a good knowledge of the historic facts will inspire one to think how they could lead a better life."

At a press conference held recently in Beijing, Yu Minhong promoted this documentary film, by promising that both his employees and he, himself would buy tickets to watch it.

"Even though the documentary narrates Deng's nine-day visit to the US in a simple, direct way, I would go to the cinema, for I'm a fan of documentary."

The film is going to meet moviegoers on May 15th.
