Since the Boao Forum for Asia was established in Hainan Province in 2001, the southern island province would attract international attention in every March as Aisn leaders gathere there to talk about economic highlights and regional development. The tropical province, however, with balmy weather and golden-sand beaches, boasts more than just a location of an international enonomic forum.

Yalong Bay National Resort
Also known as the Yalong Bay National Resort, it is one of the most famous scenic spots in Hainan province. Visitors are drawn to its crystal blue sea, warm sandy beaches and endless rolling hills. Its clean sea waters make it a pleasant place for diving and there are various kinds of tropical fish. It is an ideal place for relaxation, water sports and scuba-diving.

Qilou
Qi-Lou, a special style of local architecture that has elements of design similar to those found in veranda's in southern Europe. In the early 20th century, Chinese nationals who had lived in Europe brought this style of architecture back to China, and first introduced in Haikou. But the style was infused with Chinese elements. For example, the treasures of the Eight Immortals were carved into the visage of the Haikou Qi-Lou. The buildings also have Islamic-style grass patterns and Romanesque columns, making the Haikou Qi-Lou a unique architectural heritage that is a fusion of world cultures. Bitter-sweet Laoba Tea
Drinking Laoba tea is an important part of the leisurely lifestyle on the island. Groups of elderly people sipping cups of tea, while enjoying local snacks is a common sight on the island.
A Bite of Hainan
If you ask people from Haikou, Hainan Province's capital city, the most obvious characteristic of Hainan cuisine, the answer would be the same: it's fresh! Mashed garlic, soy sauce and orange juice are important ingredients on restaurant tables in Hainan. They are also the best condiments to have on hand when eating Wenchang chicken, a local specialty. Coconut rice is another local specialty which is famous for both its aroma and taste. The Rice is stuffed in coconut before cooking, and then the shell is removed before its served. |
