Hong Kong's seasonally adjusted jobless rate stood at 3.3 percent in August to October, 2013, same as that in July to September, the city's statistics department said Monday. The underemployment rate also remained unchanged at 1.5 percent in the two periods. Secretary for Labor and Welfare Matthew Cheung said Hong Kong' s labor market remained stable on the back of resilient domestic demand. Looking ahead, Cheung expects the labor demand to stay strong in the run-up to the festive season, thereby boding well for labor market conditions in the near term. On the other hand, the unsteady pace of recovery in the major advanced economies, as well as the uncertainties stemming from the U.S. monetary policy and fiscal issues, continue to overshadow the global economic conditions and weigh on Hong Kong's labor market, he said. |
