Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung said Saturday that the government would continue to promote sports development through fostering a strong sporting culture in the community, supporting elite sports and raising Hong Kong's position as a major location for international sports events.

　　Speaking at the Mainland Olympic Gold Medalists Extravaganza at Hong Kong Stadium, Leung extended his heartfelt gratitude to the mainland athletes for visiting Hong Kong.

　　He also paid tribute to Hong Kong athletes for their outstanding Olympics performances.

　　The extravaganza was the climax of the Mainland athletes' three-day visit to the city. They described their Olympics' experiences and staged performances with local artistes.

　　While an audience of about 30,000 enjoyed this show at the stadium, people at home could also watch the program live through a television broadcast.

　　Chinese mainland gold medalists at the London Olympics arrived in Hong Kong on Friday to participate in a variety shows, and will leave the city on Sunday.
