Heilongjiang stands the status of being not only a multi-national borderland but also an immigrant-gathered province. Han, for example, accounts for more than 90 percent of the provincial population. Though the minority nationalities have less population, they vary in different races. There are mainly ten of them: Manchu, Hui, Korean, Mongol, Daul, Origin, Evenki, Kirghic, Hezhen, Xibe, etc. most of the historical changes and folk customs are sustained by tribes. Among these, Manchu, Mongol, Orogin, Evenki and Daul have abundant mythology. Hero-themed plays are widely spread amidst Hezhen, Orogin, and Daut. For instance, “Yi mankan” of Hezhen, “Mo sukun” of Orogin, and “W u qin” of Daul are passed on from generation to generation. These plays are endowed with epic nature and are precious fortune of Heilongjiang natural culture. In modern times, Heilongjiang, the multinational borderland, has developed into a unique province of civilization merges border, nationality, as well as harmony in China and western countries together. Thanks to the policies of populated “circulation” and “deploring the original” since Tsing Dynasty. The immigrants from the central part of China have brought splendid regional traditions and their customs, which play active parts in Heilongjiang’s native culture. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Harbin, Heihe, and Suifenhe were the international commercial centers: Russia, Japan, Germany, Holland, France and many other countries were making particular contribution to the aspects such as architecture, religion, culture, education and hygiene. It is a very important characteristic of Hei’s civilization that diverse cultures exchanges here. Hei’s non-material heritage of mankind is plentiful both in quantity and quality. Many of them are absorbed into the creation of literature and art, which produces a large number of great works; others are adopted by the cultural property of tourism, which creates both social and economic profits. The Heilongjiang provincial government announced the first lot of roster in the level of a province including 57 kinds of non-material heritage of culture on March the 27th, 2007.
