China's Li Na made this year's her best performance in the China Open with a straight sets victory over Anastasija Sevestova in the quarter-final on Friday. Li overcame Sevestova 7-6, 6-3 after a sometimes testing 90-minute outing against the 55-ranked Latvian. Sevestova had already overcome two seeded figures to make it to the quarter-finals of this year鈥檚 competition but found it difficult dealing with the Wuhan native's thunderous ground strokes. The first set was a tense affair. A ding-dong battle went to 6-6 and 8-6 in the tiebreak, but that set, which lasted 59 minutes, had taken its toll on the Latvian. The second set was more straight-forward for the world number 12 and she wasted little time in going a break up in the first game. However, Sevestova rallied to break back in game eight making the score 5-3 after a contentious hawk eye call prolonged the game. It was a good workout for Li and Vera Zvonareva, the second seeded Russian, will certainly pose more of a threat in the semis tomorrow. |
