China's Li Na made this year's her best performance in the China Open with a straight sets victory over Anastasija Sevestova in the quarter-final on Friday.

Li overcame Sevestova 7-6, 6-3 after a sometimes testing 90-minute outing against the 55-ranked Latvian.

Sevestova had already overcome two seeded figures to make it to the quarter-finals of this year鈥檚 competition but found it difficult dealing with the Wuhan native's thunderous ground strokes.

The first set was a tense affair. A ding-dong battle went to 6-6 and 8-6 in the tiebreak, but that set, which lasted 59 minutes, had taken its toll on the Latvian.

The second set was more straight-forward for the world number 12 and she wasted little time in going a break up in the first game.
With Sevestova quickly tiring, she became sloppy and made a number of unforced errors as Li applied pressure for the last time. But both players held serve until the seventh game when Li broke again to all but end the match.

However, Sevestova rallied to break back in game eight making the score 5-3 after a contentious hawk eye call prolonged the game.
However, the reprieve didn鈥檛 last long and Li broke back immediately to close out the match in just over 90 minutes.

It was a good workout for Li and Vera Zvonareva, the second seeded Russian, will certainly pose more of a threat in the semis tomorrow.
