The big budget espionage thriller "Shanghai", co-produced by the Huayi Brothers Media Group and the Weinstein Company, will have its global premiere in Beijing on June.10, M1905.com reports.

Swedish director Mikael Hafstrom will bring his international cast - including "Say Anything" actor John Cusack, Chinese-born Singaporean actress Gong Li, Hong Kong action star Chow Yun-fat and Japanese "Batman Begins" actor Ken Watanabe - to the opening ceremony to promote the film.

"This romantic espionage story, featuring a rich historical background and top quality movie stars from China, Hollywood and Japan, will be a blockbuster during the summer season" said Wang Zhonglei, president of the Huayi Brothers Media Group.

John Cusack stars as American secret agent Paul Soames during the Second World War. He uses the identity of a reporter as cover and comes to Shanghai to find out who killed his best friend. He meets gang leader Anthony Lan-Ting (Chow Yun-Fat) and his wife Anna Lan-Ting (Gong Li). A romantic relationship begins to develop between Paul and Anna as Paul gets deeper into his investigation.

"Shanghai" will have its global opening in China on June 17.
