"Like all great stars who are commemorated on this boulevard, Shrek is now surely and truly part of our culture," Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation Chief Executive Officer said at the event. "He is an ogre for all ages." Katzenberg has "known a lot of people over the years that have had their stars on this street, but I can say none of them have had the impact on my life that the individual that we are honoring here today (has)," he said.
Along with two sequels -- "Shrek 2" and "Shrek the Third" that followed, the Shrek movies have garnered 2.2 billion U.S.dollars in ticket receipts in movie theaters around the world. The DreamWorks Animation made Shrek its mascot for the animation productions. On March 9, DreamWorks and Samsung announced that they will convert the Shrek franchise to 3D and released a Blu-ray format in the third quarter of 2010. "Having gone from the swamp to a star here on Hollywood Boulevard, I think he truly does represent the great Hollywood dream," Katzenberg added. |
