Actress Mei Ting pulled off a brilliant performance of playwright Zou Jingzhi's "I Love Peach Blossoms" that stunned the audience Tuesday evening at Beijing's Poly Theatre.

Industry friends who were present in support of the actress were taken aback by Mei Ting, who changed her usual sweet and demure screen image into a voluptuous, spicy mistress.

It was hard work, but the actress met the high standard set for her by the Shanghai Drama Art Center after months of practice.

The drama creates a story within a story as the present-day actors portraying the ancient figures of a Tang Dynasty drama have an extramarital love affair that mirrors the one they are acting out on stage.

The classic has been played more than 300 times in different versions at home and abroad since its debut in 2003.

"I Love Peach Blossom" runs in Beijing from March 23 to March 27.

A special book written by Mei Ting that records her life during preparation for the drama are ready for sale in Poly Theatre.
