On the 17th of November, Kunqu Opera "Peony Pavilion" was staged by Suzhou Kunqu Opera Troupe at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, the capital of France. The wonderful performance had a national audience and was a real "eye-opener".

Kunqu Opera derived from Kunshan area of Jiangsu province in the Mid-14th century. It is an ancient Chinese opera. One of the main accompaniments of the musical instruments is the musical flute. Regarded as "the mother of all operas", Kunqu has a long history of over 500 years and is one of China's extant oldest dramatic art forms. It was listed as one of the 19 inaugural "Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 2001.
