The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) has issued a circular on allocating a special assistance fund of 250 million yuan (about 35.3 million U.S. dollars) to ensure the basic living conditions of workers in difficult circumstances amid the epidemic.
The ACFTU urged local trade unions to grant timely living allowances to all qualified workers in difficulties by streamlining procedures and accelerating the allocation process.
Trade unions at the local level should also enhance aid to workers in need considering their demands and price rises during the epidemic and ensure regular assistance in place, according to the circular.
Assistance will be offered to households infected by the novel coronavirus disease, out of work due to the epidemic or lifted out of difficulties within one year to mitigate the impact of the epidemic and prevent people from returning to poverty.
The circular also stressed improvements in services to employees, calling for efforts to care for people at the frontline of epidemic prevention and control and provide them with psychological counseling services.
