Recently, Harbin Xinyang Road set up a Safe Island Street Crossing which has fixed caution lights and other devices. The newly-added pedestrian island can accommodate up 30 to 50 people to wait for traffic lights at the same time. It incorporates a safety warning, guard railing and signal. It greatly guarantees pedestrian's safety while crossing the street.

It is understood that the Safe Island was researched and developed by policemen from the Harbin Public Security Traffic Administration and won the national patent. Harbin will add 20 islands by next year.
