Chinese director Xu Ke's 3-D sci-fi animation "Animen" is scheduled to open in domestic cinemas on June 1, 2010, which also happens to be Children's Day, reports.

The upcoming film was made by a wholly "Chinese team", based on a story the director made up for his son. In order to bring the story to the big screen, Xu spent over five years developing it. The movie contains such typical Chinese elements as "Beijing Opera", "Chinese Kongfu" and "Confucian Theory". In particular, the design of a warship was adapted from the "Shenzhou 6", China's second manned spaceship, launched on October 12, 2005.

"Animen" is a sci-fi story that takes place in the future when the earth is no longer suitable for human habitation. Humans reconstruct their genes to adapt to the environment, while looking for new planets to colonize. A human expedition comes across a planet called "MALO" and starts a new life there. The film deals with how these mutated men protect their new home when faced with an alien invasion.

The film is set to open in cinemas on June 1, 2010.
