Chinese track star Liu Xiang, who pulled out of men's 110-meter hurdles at the Beijing Olympics, will make his return to the sport in the coming Shanghai Golden Grand Prix on September 20th, sohu.com reported Saturday.

An article on the portal website says organizers of the Shanghai event have confirmed Liu's comeback at the international athletic meeting next weekend. However, the report added that it still requires a final commitment from Liu's coach on whether the hurdler can run on his home track.

The 26-year-old Olympic champion withdrew from the 1st heat of men's 110m hurdles event he won in Athens in 2004 with an ankle injury.

He returned to training in spikes in July and finished 13.70 seconds in a latest test event on September 10th.

If Liu does run, he would be up against familiar faces in Americans Terrence Trammell, runner up behind Liu at the 2004 Athens Olympics and 2007 world championships, and David Oliver, who won bronze in Beijing last year.
